The setting for 1994 is the same place that Shawn Kemp is from. I am of course a huge fan. In the year 1994, Kemp had a great year continuing to be one of the more dominant and exciting players in the game as well as winning a Gold Medal at the World Games.

Making Film Vs. Writing and Selling Film
Well we're full speed ahead on planning and pre-production for shooting a documentary on the upcoming North Coast Music Festival. We are covering the film for all 3 days, plus some of the after parties. So 1994 is not proceeding at a rapid pace at the moment. Hopefully we'll be able to return to marketing the script after the shoot in the middle of next semester.

How to Write a Query Letter - my focus
For the last couple weeks I've been researching hard on the best ideas and concepts on writing a query letter for scripts. There's a fair amount out there, but nothing to consistent. Like all art forms, there's rarely one way to do something and formulas are bad. Here is one of the better one's I found from Script Doctor Eric.

Post-China Update
Back from the wonders of China and thinking about the next move on the script. No word from the contests. Time to start polishing a query letter I suppose. To the left is Jessica Lange from Blue Sky, the winner of the Best Actress Academy award in 1994.

A Dazed and Confused for the 1990s
1994 is without question inspired by one of my favorite films Dazed and Confused. Dazed and Confused was a launching pad for the careers of many involved including writer/director Richard Linklater. The film was released in the Fall of 1993, so it played a big part in the popular consciousness of the follow year.

Update - Busy
Not going to lie, so busy with the PhD program, planning the teaching trip to China and promoing for Welcome to Gentle Waters, haven't been able to focus on 1994. In the mean time check out STP on Letterman that year.

Quick And Funny Reference In The Script

No doubt Mr. Farrell gets a brief mention in 1994. One of the characters drops some interesting thoughts on Perry's future.

What's Next? A couple readers, a couple contests
So we need to keep plugging away at this script. The 90s are coming into retro fashion once again. Or at least in the near future. We had a couple fellow screenwriters look over our 3rd draft and have also put 1994 in two contests to see what happens, get some feedback, etc. More soon.

The NBA Finals - 1994
It was Hakeem vs. Ewing in a battle of big men in the NBA finals, a rematch of the giants from their college days 10 years later. The Rockets bested the Knicks in a great 7-game series. Olajuwan was surrounded by one of the best casts of small forwards and guards, while Ewing had a lesser support crew, but Pat Riley on the bench.
